Bland Farms® Premium Sweet Onions and Pear Crisp

Ingredients for the topping:

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 stick butter softened
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans
  • 1/2 cup oats
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon

Ingredients for the crisp:

  • 1 large Bland Farms Premium Sweet Onion
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 3/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


  1. Set the Big Green Egg for direct cooking at 400°F.
  2. Combine all topping ingredients together until the mixture is a fine crumb consistency.
  3. Slice the Bland Farms® Premium Sweet Onion in half. Slice each half into thin slices. Melt 1/2 stick butter in the lid of the Big Green Egg Enameled Cast Iron Dutch Oven. Add onions and salt. Cook until golden brown. Add pear slices. Cook until onions are caramelized and pears are tender. While onions and pears are cooking, combine the brown sugar, cinnamon, and flour together until no lumps remain. Once pears are tender, add the brown sugar mixture to onions and pears and stir well. Cook for 5 minutes.
  4. Cover onions and pears evenly with the topping mixture. Close lid of grill and cook for 30 minutes or until topping is evenly browned and crisp.
